The Dickinson Support Association kept the party going for students on Friday, April 29!
Following the prom at The Waterfall Event Center in Claymont, students returned to JDHS to find it decked out in 1950s Rock ‘N Roll style! The entryway had a sock hop theme and there was a Crazy Catz Coat Check where students could check their fancy dress items after changing into more comfortable clothing.
The cafeteria had been transformed into the Dickinson Diner. The diner had a snack table with, among other items, a make-your-own sundae bar and a chocolate fountain from The Melting Pot.
Other highlights in the cafeteria were the photo booth and the loooong table of raffle prizes. Raffle winners were drawn at 1 a.m., and the students had to be present to win. This encouraged them to stay in our safe, fun, and supervised environment instead of heading out onto the roads. Student safety is one of the main goals of our after prom!
There was a “drive-in” movie theater next to the gym and the gym itself was filled with inflatables. The gym corridor hosted the JDHS Senior Hall of Fame, with senior portraits presented in the style of gold record plaques.
The students had a great time, and so did we! The DSA thanks everyone who helped put the after prom together over the last few months, and especially thanks those who stayed all night to help us pull it off! You rock!
JDHS high school students will celebrate the last day of school before Spring Break with a Dress Down Day! In lieu of the school uniform, students may dress according the board-approved dress code for Red Clay Consolidated School District.
Remember that on April 4 the uniform policy is back in effect. The administration hopes to make dress down days a more regular item on the calendar. Their ability to do this will be determined by student conduct on 3/24 and how the resumption of the full uniform policy goes on 4/4.
Examples of what is allowed for 3/24 only
- Sweat pants
- Pants made of stretch material
- Hooded sweatshirts – with or without a Dickinson logo
What is still prohibited?
- Appropriate and safe footwear must be worn – flip-flops, slides, and slippers are prohibited
- Hats and head coverings are prohibited – hooded sweatshirts are OK (with or without JDHS logo), but the hoods cannot be worn up.
- Inappropriately short, revealing, or tight garments are prohibited – our uniform policy definition will be used to define what is too short. That definition is that the bottom of the shorts or skirt must be no more than 4 inches above the knee
- Images that depict or promote illegal activities are prohibited
- Pants must be worn at the waist
The discretion of the administration is preserved. If there are any questionable situations, Mr. Murphy, Mr. Kohan, or Ms. Campbell will make the final determination.

Please join us on Tuesday, January 12th at 7pm in the Library. The first part of the meeting will be a traditional DSA meeting (principal’s report, treasurer’s report, notice of upcoming events and volunteer opportunities) and the second half will be After Prom planning.
The Prom is being held on April 29th so planning the After Prom needs to start ASAP. At this meeting we will be brainstorming and setting after prom planning meeting dates.
You don’t have to have be the parent of a Junior or Senior student to help with the After Prom. We need lots of help and this is a fun activity to get involved with. There are things you can do to help from home as well. We need people to go out and solicit donations as door prizes, people to make phone calls to book entertainment, people to work on food and decorations and lots of help is needed the day of the After Prom to decorate the area. So many ways to help and so much help is needed.
Please come give even an hour or two. If you can’t attend the meeting on Tuesday but would like to help with the planning, send us an email through the contact page.
Our first DSA meeting is tonight at 7pm in the Library! Mr. Murphy will talk about all the happenings at Dickinson, Leighanne Hollans will be doing a presentation on the School Based Health Center and Heather Brooks will show us how to access the DSA website and SignUp Genius.
Also, if you were one of our raffle winners at the Back-to-School Picnic, we will have your prize available for pick up at this meeting.
