Dickinson Students Sweep Black History Month Essay Contest, Academic Excellence Recognition, Prom Tickets

Juniors in Kristin Zerbe’s English class won first, second, and third place in The News Journal’s Black History Month essay contest. The students wrote essays in response to the question: “How can we conquer hate?” Luis Rosado, the first place winner, will receive a $100 gift card and his photograph will be featured in The News Journal. Lauren Zimmerman earned a $75 gift card for her second place entry, and Albert Griffin wins a $25 gift card for his third place response.

The Latin American Community Center recognized students Daniela Arteaga-Rosas, Maria Cruz-Ortiz, Mayra Mendez Ayala, and Wilson Montero for academic excellence during its annual Hispanic Student Recognition ceremony on Saturday, April 20.

Tickets for this year’s prom are on sale now. See junior class advisor Maria Colon for details and to purchase tickets. Tickets are $75 per person and are available before and after school. The prom will be held on Friday, May 10 at the Hockessin Memorial Fire Hall.
