Visit from UD Engineering Squad, Mrs. Zerbe’s students extend their winning streak, Gantt 6ABC’s Best of Class

On Thursday, April 11, five University of Delaware students from the Mechanical Engineering Student Squad visited Sonja Cicconi’s Honors Physical Science class. Their presentation included a study on sound and waves, how they are represented in mathematics, and how they are applied to engineering concepts. Students engaged in hands-on activities involving making popsicle stick harmonicas and experimenting with wavelengths to see how it affects pitch. Students were also provided an opportunity to ask questions regarding careers in engineering. The MESS students were Elizabeth Gorman, Jessica Penman, Vince Stuhlrager, Jessica Corson, and Chelsea Thompson.

Juniors Lauren Zimmerman and James Austin, students in Kristin Zerbe’s Honors English class won second and third place respectively in the statewide Celebration of Diversity Writing Contest sponsored by the Delaware State Education Association. Students wrote about a person or group who has made an outstanding contribution to civil rights.  They will be honored at the DSEA’s Human and Civil Rights Awards Dinner in May at the Sheraton Inn in Dover.  This is the sixteenth year that students in Zerbe’s classes at Dickinson have received major awards in this writing contest.

Channel 6abc will be recognizing senior Richard Gantt as the school’s representative for this year’s Best of Class. The co-valedictorian, Gantt earned all-state and all-east choir distinction, as well as participated in a number of plays and musicals during his high school career.
