Dickinson Report, March 7

The Ninth Grade Transition Academy earned the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce’s Superstars in Education for the second time in three years. In 2011, English teacher Kristin Zerbe was cited for her creative writing class. This year, SIE recognized the work done by the academy in assisting incoming freshmen in their transition to high school and teaching them skills for success in their new environment. The NGTA is led by headmaster and assistant principal Chris Kohan and student advisers John Melidosian and Jim Miro, as well as a small team of teachers dedicated specifically to ninth graders.

The Drama Club, under the direction of Katie Gee and Liz Allen, will perform “Don Quixote” at 7 p.m. March 22 and 23 in the auditorium. The cast is led by sophomore Matthew Stormer (in the title role), sophomore Daniel White (Sancho Panza) and senior Conner Flora (Cervantes). Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door.

Mathematics teacher Michael Reitemeyer was voted by his colleagues as the 2013 Teacher of the Year. Reitemeyer, who also coaches wrestling, is in his sixth year at Dickinson. The other building level finalists were English language learners teacher Allen, mathematics teacher Susanne Spitsbergen and technology education teacher Kathryn Sheehy.
