High School Report, February 14

Junior Kelsey Morris and senior Jahmir Roy had their writing published in the February issue of Teen Ink magazine. Morris wrote a positive movie review of the film P.S. I Love You, while Roy wrote an opinion article entitled “A Message to My Brothers and Sisters” about his disappointment and hopes regarding black youth today. This is Roy’s third published in the Teen Ink.

The next Coffee Series will be offered on Tuesday, February 26 from 8am to 10am. This is an opportunity for prospective parents to tour the school during a typical school day. Call the main office at 302-992-5500 to reserve your place. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.

The February Dickinson Support Association meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 26 at 7pm in the library.

The 2nd marking period awards assemblies for each grade will take place today throughout the day. Teachers have cited students in each class for categories such as Outstanding Achievement, Outstanding Effort, Most Improved, and Student Leadership. In addition, the administration will recognize students with Perfect Attendance during the 2nd marking period and students who earned Honor Roll, who numbered over one hundred students, and Distinguished Honor Roll. The following eleven students earned straight A’s on their report cards: freshmen Julia Bouton, Tyler Clark, and Ashley Hamm; sophomores Andrew Patterson and Matthew Stormer; juniors Amanda Birowski, Shayonna Edwards, Ma Guadalupe Sanchez-Garduno, and Vince Tang; and seniors Khadia Baptiste and Nicole Dapanas-Javillo.

Tomorrow is an inservice day, so students do not report to school. In addition, school will be closed on Monday in observance of President’s Day.
