In lieu of the annual holiday concert, the Performing Arts Department hosted a special end-of-season banquet and retirement dinner for director Sheila Cassidy, who steps down at the end of December after thirty-six years as a music educator. Current band and choir members, their families, staff, and alumni from as far back as the 1980s joined in the celebration. A mixed group of vocalists honored her with a rendition of ‘Thank You for the Music’, while others performed solo vocal and instrumental pieces. Some highlights included class of 1999 Joshua Day’s ‘Hark the Herald Angel Sings’ on the hammered dulcimer and a performance by Imperial Dynasty, an independent drumline that rehearses at the school and is sponsored by Cassidy. The event was organized by the band and choir officers led by drum major and band president Patrick Tang.
Coaches from both the Dickinson and McKean swim teams held a teacher appreciation ceremony during their meet on Monday, December 17. Following the 50m freestyle event, teachers from both schools were recognized for the positive influence they have had on the teams’ swimmers. They were presented with carnations and a certificate of appreciation. The coaches from Dickinson are Kathy Sheehy (girls’) and Mark Lyons (boys’).
The Class of 1963 is beginning to plan its 50th reunion. Contact Janet Weaver (Buker) at email@example.com to update your contact information.
Students will return to school from winter break this Wednesday, January 2.
